About Author Diane E. Samson
I was lucky enough to grow up on acreage just north of Kansas City, Missouri, with horses and dogs in the backyard. I loved reading at a young age but was especially hooked when my third grade teacher read us The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. I wanted to make other people feel the way C.S. Lewis made me feel when reading The Chronicles of Narnia. I'm also an avid animal lover. I grew up riding horses and training dogs as well as dancing, swimming and participating in most normal childhood pursuits.
After considering a career as a veterinarian, I decided to pursue my love of words and earn a degree in magazine journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia. After graduation I worked as a reporter, managing editor and in public relations. After moving around the country, I've recently returned to the Kansas City area where I live with my husband and golden retriever, keeping in touch with my three adult children.
Another love is time spent at our lake house, a property my grandparents built before I was born. The photo above was taken from our dock. I have tons of memories growing up there, swimming, water skiing and fishing with my grandmother. We love sharing the place with family and friends.
I've written fiction off and on my whole life and was thrilled to release Gems of Fire in 2018. My debut fiction work, it's the first of three in the Gems of Fire series about a girl traveling a journey of self-discovery in a world of powerful gems, supernatural forces, epic battles and of course, handsome heroes. The series is now complete with Shadow of Death serving as a companion novel, meaning it can be read in any order within the series. Technically a prequel, it's our hero Jack's story before he meets Anna in Gems of Fire and adds a ton of depth to his character.
